Welcome to the official FitnanceIQ post!.
I would like to start my first FitnanceIQ post with an uplifting message. In a world of so much stress, we need to keep our minds at peace. There are many different methods individuals use to distress and achieve peace. Some people rely on comfort food, binge eating, alcohol and recreational drugs to drown out their worries. It’s important to know we all have our vices, mine happens to be food (all types and flavors of shrimp to be exact*drool*). This can get tricky at time managing a healthy lifestyle and being a proud foodie but it’s important to know your limits. Finding the perfect balance between healthy nutritional food and that feel good food that makes a sista want to dance and sing. Here are some healthy tips of obtaining peace:
- Exercise. Cardio is a great method of exercise for releasing endorphins. Swimming and bodyweight exercises such as jumping jacks, or sit-ups can be great stress relievers. However refrain from high intensity or challenging exercises such as weight lifting when angry. You may overwork yourself and do more harm than good, I’ve experienced lifting while angry and in retrospect it was probably better to go for walk or do some push-ups instead of curling 25-30lbs.
- Music. I find music therapeutic to the soul. All genres can have healing effect on an individual whether it’s Classical, Country, Christian, Rock, Reggae or R&B. For many people music can be very nostalgic, or make you laugh like the song “Take me to the King” by Tamela Mann (inside joke) ,or helps you cry your heart out for a moment. Every song evokes different emotions and provide you with the remedy you need.
- Yoga/Meditation. Throughout my stay in Korea, I could not go to bed without taking the time to reflect and breathe deep. It helped me to relinquish the stress of the day and helped a lot with my sleep. It was equally as beneficial in the mornings for loosening up my body and getting me ready for the day. I was at the happiest point of life when I was taking 15-20 minutes before bedtime to do these exercise. Try clearing you mind when doing meditation or breathing exercises they can be quite calming.
- Picking up a hobby. Are you an aspiring artist? Or do you just enjoy the arts for fun? I find art to be a relaxing hobby. I wish I could tell you I’m a woman of many talents but I couldn’t draw to save myself. Nonetheless I have written a couple of songs (please don’t ask to hear them) and a few poems in the past and I love to dance my butt off (I may show in the near future).
- Journaling. If you don’t have trouble writing how you feel daily, weekly or monthly. Then my friends get you a journal. It will make you feel like the weight of stress has lifted off of your shoulders. This is perfect for individuals that don’t have others to talk to, or just don’t know how to get your words out right.
- Spend time with family, friends or just by yourself. The best way to have peace of mind is being around people whom you can just be yourself. Enjoy a movie, board game, a lovely conversation, or rejuvenate yourself by doing absolutely nothing. Don’t worry, using social media is okay here and there as long as it’s not the centre of your life, unless of course you’re making a living from it.
There are the things that help me to maintain a peace of mind and as we all know, a healthy mind creates a peaceful body. What are some of the things that you do to have a peace of mind and relieve your stress?
